As an atheist…

As an atheist, I derive my moral standing from science, which is the understanding of the world around us.

I believe that when I understand something, I can take steps to improve it.

What do I find important? Perhaps the reasons why I believe gays should be married and why mothers can stop their pregnancy, why I think we should convert to nuclear power and build rockets to go to the moon…

But more importantly, why I don’t need a higher power, a spiritual friend, a god, a leader.

Because I know the world around me.

And I can be my own leader.

a forest of living, changing, beautiful trees. I think a tombstone holds much more finality in death than a tree. It’s like you are living on symbolically through something greater than yourself.

this is a serious post about how much I want this. I’ll make sure my family knows.

I love this idea because of reasons…..

Oh yeah, I forgot, it’s also great for the environment too!

If you buried yourself normally in a coffin you’d be releasing a shit ton of poisonous embalming fluids, with the US alone burying approximately 830,000 gallons of the stuff every year. It can pose a serious risk to groundwater resources.

Cremation creates some pretty nasty gases and furthers the effect of global warming.

With this “urn” you’ll be able to decompose, returning the nutrients you’ve consumed all your life back to the Earth.
